Op-Ed by EqualAI President & CEO: America Cannot Win the Global AI Race if Americans are Afraid to Use AI

October 7, 2026

Today, Fox News published an op-ed authored by Miriam Vogel, President & CEO of EqualAI, titled “America Cannot Win the Global AI Race if Americans are Afraid to Use AI.”

Miriam makes the case that, as organizations accelerate AI development and capabilities, they need to match pace with the mechanisms that enable their capacity to govern it.

She recommends five steps that every leadership team deploying AI should take:

  1. Make AI visible: “Organizations should know the who, what, where, when and how: where AI is deployed, what it can do and access, who owns it, when it will be tested and how unexpected outcomes will be addressed.”

  2. Establish independent evaluation: “Who evaluates AI systems? Against what benchmarks? And what happens when a system fails?”

  3. Create a system to identify and handle significant AI incidents: “Define incidents and ensure all responsible parties understand escalation pathways and reporting obligations.”

  4. Require accountability: “Every organization should have a point person for deployments in certain risk categories.”

  5. Ensure your workforce and families are AI literate: “People do not need to become engineers. They need to understand what AI can and cannot do, when to question it and when human judgment must remain in charge.”
