RAND-cosponsored event in D.C. will produce white paper aimed at operationalizing responsible AI governance
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 2, 2024) — EqualAI concluded its third responsible AI summit in Washington, D.C., with direction for development of metrics for responsible AI programs and commitment to reducing the challenges of AI adoption across sectors. The RAND-cosponsored Responsible AI Summit featured speakers Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Sen. Mike Rounds (R- SD), Elizabeth Kelly (Director of U.S. Safety Institute), and EEOC Commissioner Keith Sonderling.

Once again, our community came together to support soft governance and align on best practices all companies and organizations can and should take to overcome challenges in AI governance,” said EqualAI President and CEO Miriam Vogel. “The critical conversations and alignment on metrics over the course of our summit have taken us a great step forward to achieving safe, responsible, and accessible AI systems that are built for a broader cross section of our population.”
EqualAI, a nonprofit organization focused on reducing bias and other harms in the development and use of artificial intelligence by defining and operationalizing responsible AI governance, hosted senior executives across technology, finance, foundations, and government sectors to establish metrics to evaluate responsible AI systems.
In recent years, many companies have taken the first step of adopting AI principles, but challenges emerge in the next phase of operationalizing those concepts. Often these questions are identical, no matter the size and vertical in which the organization operates. At the summit, business executives – who are developing or using AI for critical functions and are members of EqualAI’s groundbreaking Badge Program, where they are highly trained to implement best practices and allow their brands to be recognized for their responsible and trustworthy.
