Mara Quintero Campbell serves as Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff at EqualAI, where she supports the development of strategic initiatives to help companies, policymakers, and institutions define and implement AI governance frameworks that foster innovation and enable broader AI adoption. In this role, she oversees operational functions of EqualAI to drive organizational growth and impact. Previously, she helped launch the nation’s first ever U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI), where she served as Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer and oversaw and managed execution of AISI’s operations and activities.
Prior to AISI, Mara was Deputy Chief Operating Officer within the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), and directed internal operations for 300 staff across six regional offices and headquarters. At EDA, she led major initiatives including the agency’s COVID response and implementation of both the American Rescue Plan Act and CHIPS and Science Act programs.
Before joining Commerce, Campbell served as Associate General Counsel and Acting General Counsel at the Inter-American Foundation. She holds a J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from Bard College.
